Types of Vascular Imaging

VENOUS DOPPLER ULTRASOUND

  • A non-invasive diagnostic test that enables us to determine if there are blood clots in the venous system and assess whether the valves in the veins are working properly.

ARTERIAL DOPPLER ULTRASOUND

  • A non-invasive diagnostic test used to examine the arteries in the arms or legs, checking for plaque buildup and blockage. We also use this type of ultrasound after treatment for surveillance of bypass grafts or stents to ensure blockages do not recur.

SEGMENTAL PRESSURE TEST WITH ANKLE BRACHIAL INDEX, commonly known as ABI

  • This non-invasive test involves placing a series of blood pressure cuffs on the arm and legs to help us determine if and where there is blockage in the arteries.

US

ABDOMINAL AORTIC ULTRASOUND

  • A non-invasive diagnostic test used to evaluate the largest artery in the body, located in the abdomen- to check for aneurysm, which is a weakened, bulging spot in the abdominal aorta.

ILIOCAVAL ULTRASOUND, also known as ABDOMINAL VENOUS ULTRASOUND

  • A non-invasive diagnostic test used to evaluate the veins in the abdomen and pelvis to check for blockage and narrowing.

RENAL DUPLEX ULTRAOUND

  • A non-invasive diagnostic test used to evaluate the blood flow to the kidneys.

VEIN MAPPING ULTRASOUND

  • A non-invasive technique to measure and literally “map” the veins in the arms or legs for a hemodialysis access creation or conduit for bypass.

HEMODIALYSIS ACCESS ULTRASOUND

  • A non-invasive diagnostic test used to assess the dialysis anatomy and function of and arteriovenous fistula or arteriovenous access graft.

SPLANCHNIC or MESENTERIC DUPLEX ULTRASOUND

  • A non-invasive diagnostic test used to help our surgeons detect reduced blood flow in the arteries that supply the intestines.

Director of Imaging

Dominique (Dom) is our Director of Imaging. She has been practicing in the field of sonography since 2005 and has a passion for vascular ultrasound in particular and all that it encompasses. She takes pride as a Registered Vascular Technologist, earning her credentials through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography. Her role is vital in helping our surgeon’s identify and diagnose the various vascular pathologies through the ultrasound studies her department performs. She also assists our surgeons during vein ablation procedures with ultrasound guidance.
